Upinder forms a part of the Dispute Resolution Team at ALO and is involved in Corporate and Commercial Litigation of the firm at all levels from the trial to the Supreme Court of India. He is regular in briefing various senior advocates and counsels and representing clients before the various courts and forums across India. As part of the Dispute Resolution Team, he also specialises in Civil and Commercial Arbitrations in diverse areas including construction, shareholding disputes.

Experience

Upinder has good experience in matters relating to Companies Act, 2013 including oppression and mismanagement. He has also developed a special interest in the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Laws especially the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016. He believes that enactment of this legislation has given a makeover shift to litigation in the field of corporate laws and that there is a lot of potential for growth in this field. He is always updated about the amendments taking place in this field. He also has experience in the fields of International Commercial Arbitration, matrimonial disputes and family business settlement.

Background

Upinder has a legal family background and therefore choosing law as a career was not a very difficult option for him. However, he chose to join a law firm since he wanted to learn and establish himself from his own hard work. He was initially interested in becoming a Chartered Accountant but instead opted law as a career option. This further explains his interest in the commercial and corporate side. However, having the benefit of hindsight, he believes that there would have been no better option for him than being a lawyer.

Philosophy

Upinder enrolled to the Bar in 2017 and has 3 years of experience in the legal profession. Being a young lawyer, he brings a sense of modern ideas, thoughts and new ways of practicing law into the firm in this dynamic and globalised environment. Upinder was born and brought up in Delhi. He has also completed his education from Delhi. Besides being a lawyer, he has interests in tennis and photography. Perhaps, he likes to catch up a good movie or a good book over the weekend when he is not working
